Saint Lucia was one of the last European colonies to finally declare independence- February 22, 1979. In fact, the island only became independent when British Commonwealth had a peaceful economy and sovereign government ( MAJOR side eye to the Brits!).

Saint Lucia is a melting pot of various cultures. African cultures brought over during colonial times- including the English, French, and Dutch (remnants of their colonizing the island.

"The blue reflects the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea, which surround the island. The white and black indicate harmony between the races living on Saint Lucia. The yellow triangle represents the constant sunshine that the tropical island enjoys and that serves to encourage the tourist industry. The black triangle symbolizes the topographic features known as the Pitons, ancient volcanic cones found in the southwest of Saint Lucia. " - Saint Lucia

Such a beautiful island 🌴 I’ve only been once but the experience is unmatched. My mother was born there and I can’t wait to go back!
