“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
-
Harriet Tubman.

Education and literacy play a major role in my passion for change. Without knowledge, we as a people will not get very far in this world. We are all witnessing in these United States, and beyond- that people in power will do anything to stop the spread of facts.
Book banning is more ever present, so with keeping that in mind, I implore us to keep fighting. Keep learning. Keep reading. Every city/state I have lived, I have always obtained my library card. Libraries are spaces where one can learn about different cultures, careers, technologies and languages. These local and state institutions are great for meeting other individuals and groups who share likeminded, and sometimes different outlooks on academia.

Steps to Obtain a Library Card
While the exact process may vary by location, here are the general steps:
Find Your Local Library – Locate the nearest public library through an online search or by visiting your city’s library website.
Check Eligibility – Most libraries require you to live, work, or attend school in the area they serve. Some may have reciprocal agreements with nearby counties.
Gather Required Documents – Typically, you’ll need:
A valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, or state ID).
Proof of residency (utility bill, lease, or official mail with your name and address).
Visit the Library or Apply Online – Some libraries allow online registration, where you receive a temporary card until you visit in person to verify your details.
Fill Out an Application – Whether online or in person, you’ll need to provide personal details like name, address, phone number, and email.
Receive Your Library Card – Once approved, you’ll get a physical (and sometimes digital) card that grants access to library resources.
Benefits of Having a Library Card
A library card offers much more than just book borrowing! Here are some major perks:
Access to Free Books & Audiobooks – Borrow physical and digital books, saving money on purchases.
Streaming Services – Many libraries offer free access to platforms like Hoopla and Kanopy for movies, music, and TV shows.
Online Learning Resources – Gain free access to courses on platforms like LinkedIn Learning, Coursera, or language-learning apps like Mango Languages.
Research & Databases – Get premium access to academic journals, business resources, and historical archives.
Community Events & Workshops – Attend author talks, book clubs, resume workshops, and children’s storytime sessions.
Technology & Workspaces – Use free Wi-Fi, borrow laptops, print documents, and access study rooms.
Discounts & Museum Passes – Many libraries provide free or discounted entry to local museums, cultural sites, and attractions.
