Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. Since August 17, 1988, the histories, cultures and contributions of our ancestors who came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America are highlighted.

Several Caribbean countries are included within the Hispanic/Latino (African) diaspora :

  • Belize

  • Guyana

  • Suriname

  • Cuba

  • Haiti

  • Guadeloupe

  • Martinique

  • Puerto Rico

  • Saint Bartholomew

  • Saint Martin

"The observation that originally started in 1968 as "Hispanic Heritage Week" under President Lyndon Johnson, was later expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period commemorating the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua."- Hispanic Heritage.
